iCal or a PMS connection for cleaning software?

Check the data and workflow of the specific connection, including updates, permissions and duplicate tasks.

By STR Compare Editorial team · Research checked October 2, 2026

The short answer

Choose the connection that carries the information your cleaning workflow needs, then verify its plan and behavior. Do not assume a direct PMS connection is always instant or faster than iCal. Turno’s own troubleshooting guidance describes iCal refreshes every two hours and integration sync taking up to six hours; these are vendor timings, not independently tested guarantees.

Check what the connection carries

Turno accepts iCalendar (.ics) booking feeds and lists several supported booking integrations. Its integration guide says default check-in/check-out times do not import from linked calendars.

Editorial verification checklist: confirm property identity, arrival/departure dates, actual task times, guest information you need, blocked dates and cancellation handling. Verify each field for your exact connection rather than assuming all connectors carry the same data.

Check plans and permissions at both ends

Breezeway’s Lodgify guide uses a Public API key. Its OwnerRez guide uses login authorization and describes the next hourly reservation pull. Its Hospitable guide uses authorization and says loading begins in about 30 minutes. These setup descriptions are not plan entitlements or service guarantees.

Editorial checklist: confirm your exact PMS edition, supported connection, required subscription and who can authorize it. API documentation and integration directories answer different questions.

Avoid duplicate properties and tasks

Breezeway warns that adding a connection when another is already enabled can duplicate properties; its guides direct migrating hosts to support.

Editorial guidance: map each physical property to one intended booking source, agree the migration sequence and check for duplicate tasks before retiring the old workflow.

Test a change, a cancellation and an exception

Editorial commissioning checklist: make one test booking, change its dates, cancel it and inspect the cleaning task each time. Check whether the cleaner receives the expected update. Then rehearse a late booking and your manual fallback.

Turno warns that a booking created and starting before the next sync can be missed. Scheduling automation therefore needs an exception process, not just a successful initial connection.

Common questions

Is an API integration always faster than iCal?

No universal conclusion is supported here. Turno’s help guidance describes two-hour iCal refreshes and integration sync taking up to six hours; verify your exact connection.

Does an integration listing mean it is included in my plan?

No. Confirm entitlement at both ends. A setup guide or API overview does not establish the price or plan for your account.

Should I keep two connections running during migration?

Agree the migration sequence first. Breezeway warns that adding another connection can duplicate properties and asks migrating hosts to contact support.
